What is a No Fault Divorce?
In a no fault divorce there is no party at fault for the split. Essentially the divorce is a simple dissolution requested by and granted to one or both of the married parties without any adultery, cruelty, or other act that would point a finger at one person or the other.
A no fault divorce does not require any evidence in court of wrong-doing on the part of one or both parties. To receive a no fault divorce, you must simply follow the requirements set forth by your state and file the applicable paperwork at the courthouse.
In a no fault divorce, the marriage is dissolved because of “irreconcilable differences” or other legal terms with the same meaning.
No fault divorces have become legally permissible in the United States beginning only in the mid twentieth century and they have become exceedingly common since that time. The low cost and simplicity of a no-fault divorce make them very appealing to couples who have reached a breaking point.
