Who Will Cheat, And What You Can Do About It

As an online divorce review site, we enjoy keeping up with the latest comings and goings in the world of the divorcee. This curiosity has led us to a recent article for Huffington Post. In it, contributor Michelle Toglia took a look at the 9 People Who Might Cheat On You, According To Science. The piece, played mostly for humor, compiled a list of possible perpetrators as evidenced by a number of studies over the past few years. Here’s the Cliffs Notes version:

  • Tall guys
  • Rock-and-roll fans
  • The French
  • Blonde women
  • Twitter users
  • Female teachers
  • Guys who work in IT
  • Shopaholics
  • Guys named Wayne

Now, if you want to live your life based on statistics, those are nine people that science says you can safely stay away from. So now that we’ve answered the question of who will cheat, let’s turn our attention to what can be done about it.

You could rigidly stick to these findings and toss out any potential dating partner who meets one or more of the criteria; or you could choose to live without fear and give others the benefit of the doubt. When it comes to living a happy and fulfilling life, we suggest the latter. That being said, here are some quick tips for finding happiness amid the fearful statistics.

1. Realize that you are not a statistic, and that your life is more about finding the balance between head and heart than rigid risk analysis.

2. Don’t let fear keep you from taking chances. In life, little is gained if nothing is risked. Yes, you could shut yourself up inside of a house or apartment and watch Netflix every night. It might keep you from getting hurt; but it will also keep you from experiencing joy, triumph, and elation. Without those things, what’s the point?

3. Learn not to saddle someone else with what other people have done. Just because there are minor similarities between two types of people, that doesn’t mean you should condemn the whole. You wouldn’t want someone to pre-judge you to that extent, so try not to do it to other people.
