For this weeks blog entry we thought we would have a little fun and talk about some of the strangest divorce settlements and take some time to stroll through the wild, wacky, and bizarre world of divorce. Of Course many of the divorces in this story happened long before online divorce forms and some of the other way that technology has changed the way we look at marriage and divorce. It probably will not be too much longer before divorce settlements will include who owns the facebook account and which partner will retain the rights to the cloud storage.
Lets kick it off with this gem, in 2001 one Dr Richard Batista donated his kidney to his wife Dawnell. Dr. Batista later found his wife was cheating on him and at that point filed for divorce. The kicker here? As part of the divorce settlement Dr. Batista stated that he wanted his kidney back or to be reimbursed for $1.5 million dollars. Now we readily admit that MyDivorceDocuments.com and our array of online divorce form downloads does not have a section for donated organ reimbursement but we will play a hunch here that this, no matter how bitter the divorce, is one area that is certainly in the minority.
And to the world of music go for Strange Divorces fact item #2. And it comes from none other then the late great soul singer Marvin Gaye who sadly passed away long before divorce forms online were available. In 1977 Gaye was divorcing for then wife Anna Gordy, whose surname you may recognize as being the older sister of Motown founder Berry Gordy. Anyhow, upon discussing the settlement it was revealed that Gaye was on the verge of being broke, as bad investments and a penchant for overspending had sapped his bank account down to nothing. In a novel approach to divorce, the lawyers agreed that Gaye could simply record an album and give the proceeds to his ex. Thus the album “Here, my Dear” was recorded. The bad news? Was met with poor sales and one of Gaye’s least popular albums. The good news? The album was a hit with critics…we can only speculate as of 2012 what the album has grossed.
This next item though bizarre, actually makes some sense and it far more understandable then some of out other items. We can all this item “when the Olympic spirit goes horrible wrong.” We all remember the Beijing Olympics and the remarkable opening ceremony. Wang Yueting in the Anhui Provence was so taken with the Olympic spirit that he sold the couple’s apartment to buy a van and finance a 6 member team to run across China. Problem was, believe it or not wives are not really big on hair brained schemes that sacrifice the family home to finance a project that yields no revenue. Go figure. At least some things are universal and it is a shame that China’s internet restriction policies probably means that Mrs Yueting never had access for a low cost divorce process.
And finally here is a round up of some crazy state laws right here in the US. In Delaware, a divorce can legally be granted provided the couple prove “they were only joking.” It is true, the law reads a marriage can be annulled if the marriage was entered into as a “jest” or a “dare.” Explains why Kim Kardashian avoids Delaware to this day. Another great law comes from Kentucky and maybe one of our favorites on this online divorce form blog. The law their states it’s illegal to remarry the same person 4 times. How they came to the number 4 as opposed to 3 or 5 is the real mystery to us. We promise won’t make any snide Kentucky related jokes. We hope you enjoyed this weeks blog. Remember when it comes to online divorce forms, MyDivorceDocuments is your one stop online resource divorce information website.
